Machine Shop Lead

American Legend Aircraft is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Lead to oversee and improve our machining operations. This role combines hands-on fabrication with leadership responsibilities, managing a small team and guiding them to produce high-quality components for both experimental and certified aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to introduce new processes to enhance our operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in daily machining tasks, including milling, turning, and CNC operations.
- Create CAM and procedures based on engineering models.
- Supervise a small team, ensuring all parts are produced to the highest standards of quality, precision, and safety.
- Develop and implement improvements in machining processes, tooling, and workflows to enhance efficiency and part quality.
- Maintain and update process documentation, including creating standard operating procedures for new and existing processes.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex machining issues as they arise, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Monitor equipment and tool condition, working with maintenance teams to ensure proper upkeep and calibration.
- Collaborate with engineering and other departments to ensure machining capabilities align with design requirements and production goals.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficient with CAM in Fusion 360.
- Proficient in 5th axis CNC programming and operation.
- Proficient with CNC lathe including live tooling operations.
- Strong knowledge of machining materials, cutting tools, and metrology equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve machining issues on the fly.
- Experience with process improvement and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a changing work environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead a small team and collaborate across departments.
